Protective clothing flame retardant tester


The protective clothing flame retardant tester is used to measure the flame retardancy, glow transmission and carbonization properties of fabrics, children's clothing, foam, paper and other materials. The purpose of this manual is to provide guidance on the setup and use of the VFC. Please refer to the specific test method for sample preparation and test instructions.

1. Gas burner

A modified Bunsen burner provides a non-pyjama test kit. The burner includes a flame altimeter and light guide. Sloping side burners mounted on the side walls of the test chamber are provided for the children's sleepwear test kit.

2. Gas connection

The gas mixture shall be methane, 99% pure, or as specified in the applicable test method. If using a side burner, connect the gas supply line directly to the burner inlet through a customer-supplied pressure regulator. If using a Bunsen burner, connect your gas supply to the manual gas control unit and connect the unit's output wire to the burner inlet

3. The position and flame height of the Bunsen burner

Position the burner in a position such that the center of the burner barrel is directly below the center of the specimen

On the burner, relative to the indicator tube, there is a metal flame height gauge spaced 13 mm (1/2 inch) from the barrel and extending above the burner. The rod has two 8mm (5/16") tips marked 19mm (3/4") and 38mm (1 1/2") above the burner top. Use this gauge when adjusting the burner flame height according to the applicable test method.

4. Burner Operation

Test using side burners: Hang the empty specimen holder on the support rod of the VFC chamber and clamp the rear edge of the holder to the holder rails extending from the back wall of the chamber. Position the burner tube directly below the center of the sample and adjust the position of the stop ring on the burner (outside the combustion chamber). Slide the burner out (to the right) and fire. According to the test method, adjust the burner flame height according to the inner wall flame height gauge of the combustion chamber. Remove the empty specimen holder and hang the loaded specimen holder in the cavity as previously described. Close the door and conduct the test in accordance with the applicable test method.
