Carpet burning tester/carpet flame retardant tester is used to detect the burning effect of small fire sources on the carpet to evaluate the flammability and flame retardant performance of the carpet when it is subjected to small flames. Test principle:

Under the specified conditions, the samples in the horizontal position were exposed to the action of a small fire source, namely hexamethylenetetramine tablets (hereinafter referred to as tablets), and the damage length and flame spread time after the test were measured.

Carpet burning tester/carpet flame retardant tester test method:

1. Hot nut method:

Stainless steel nuts are heated to 900°C in a muffle furnace. Put the sample to be tested into the test box, and place the snap ring on the sample with crucible tongs. The heated nut is placed in the center of the retaining ring, and the nut is removed after 30 seconds. Measurements can then be made to evaluate the spread of the sample fire point.

2. Polymerization plate method:

The conditioned sample is placed on a removable base in the test chamber, and a metal pan with rounded cut edges is placed on the sample. The polymer sheet is placed in the center of the sample and ignited. After the flame is extinguished, measurements can be made to evaluate the combustion effect. It is recommended that the test chamber be placed in a laboratory fume hood.

3. Urotropine pill method:

Put the test sample into the test box, place the retaining ring on the sample, ignite the standard pill, and after the flame is extinguished, the measurement can be carried out to evaluate the combustion effect.

experiment procedure:

1. The test should be carried out in the atmosphere with a temperature of 10℃~30℃ and a relative humidity of 20%~65%.

2. Put the test box into the ventilation fan and close the exhaust device.

3. Put on gloves and take out a sample from the humidified atmosphere or desiccator. For the pile sample, brush the pile upright in the opposite direction of the pile lodging.

4. Lay the sample on the bottom plate of the test box with the face up, and place the metal plate on the sample, and align the four sides with the sample.

5. Take a tablet and place it in the center of the sample, and lightly touch the surface of the tablet with the flame of a lit match or igniter to ignite the tablet. If timing is required, start the stopwatch, taking care not to touch the specimen with the flame of a lit match or igniter.

The time between when the sample is taken out of the container or desiccator and when the tablet is ignited should be controlled within 2 minutes. If it exceeds 2 minutes, another sample should be taken and re-tested according to 3-5.

If the tablet ruptures when ignited, the test result is invalid.

6. The ignited flame or any spreading flame burns until it is extinguished, and the flame or flameless combustion spreads to any edge of the metal plate hole. If one of the above two conditions is met, the test is terminated, and the timing is immediately stopped and turned on. The exhaust device of the fume hood removes fumes and toxic gases.

Use a steel ruler to measure the maximum distance from the center of the specimen to the edge of the damaged area, in millimeters (mm).

Remove the sample and remove the residue from the bottom plate of the test chamber. There should be enough time between each test to allow the test chamber to cool down to room temperature ± 5 ℃.

Repeat the method specified in 4 to 5 for the remaining seven samples.

If necessary, use a timer to measure the time in seconds for the tablet to ignite to flame or flameless to the edge of the hole in the metal plate.
