The flame spread tester ISO 5658 radiates heat through a gas radiant panel and uses an imported heat flow meter to calibrate the radiant heat and ignite the sample through a mixed gas burner to test the combustion of a material under a certain radiant heat; it is mainly used for the determination of building products. The transverse flame spread performance, the flame spread performance/flame spread speed can evaluate the fire retardant performance of the material.

Expose the sample to an area of ​​well-defined radiant flux and measure the ignition time, flame spread and final extinction time. The test sample is placed in a vertical position, adjacent to the radiant panel, and exposed to an area of ​​clearly demarcated radiant flux. The pilot flame is close to the test sample, but does not touch the test sample, and the heated end of the sample is ignited by the evaporating gas on the surface. After ignition, the development of the flame front was recorded, and the time it took for the flame front to burn horizontally on the surface of the sample to each calibrated distance was recorded. Further test materials include ignition heat, continuous combustion heat, critical flow, average heat of continuous combustion, total heat release and other related parameters.
